Arthur Flegenheimer (aka Dutch Shultz) was the "Beer Baron" of the Bronx. He did very well for himself during Prohibition, but after repeal, he tried to muscle into the numbers racket in Harlem and various union and extortion schemes. He lacked the finesse and the savvy to succeed in these riskier ventures. He beat the government out of one charge by having the venue for his trial moved to upstate New York and essentially bribing everyone in town. But then the hothead got all lathered up over special prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey (later GOP presidential candidate, later Governor of NY). He planned to assassinate Dewey. Charlie Luciano warned him against doing so--it'd bring intolerable heat on all of organized crime--but Shultz wouldn't listen. So Lucky had him whacked. A gangster who comes to that bad end due to his own stupidity is not someone you can call a shining success.

What do I think of him? Well I think he left behind an interesting story of his life for all the reasons Turnbull stated. He was moronic and crazy and said some mental things in the last few hours of his life. He was whacked whilst eating at a restaurant but managed to hang onto life for just less than a day.
