Yes, I read that article. I think it was in Gentleman's Quarterly, and it was by some very old Mafioso who claimed (among other things) that Virginia Hill's brother Chick assassinated Bugsy Siegel. I remember his quote, but I think he was referring to the influence of Meyer Lansky. I thought he was exaggerating. Jews and others have operated and cooperated with the Mafia, but were never "made," for obvious reasons. But they didn't create the Mafia--they just helped the Mafia prosper, on occasion.
BTW: Among the other non-Italian, and non-Jewish Mob influentials was Murray (the Camel) Humphries, born in Wales, who was one of Capone's top ranking guys, and ran the labor rackets for the Chicago Outfit into the Seventies.
