We came across this question in the Godfather forum. Puzo said in The Godfather: Mafia means "Refuge", from Arabic language. Puzo says in The Sicilian: Mafia means Brotherhood. Others believe Mafia comes from Mafioso=Pride, or Ma Fia, my daughter. Anybody here know what Mafia means.
