There was an earlier thread which I started back in July of '03 after seeing the film, which has been deleted.
While I might have been a bit
too effusive with my praise, saying some thing to the effect that "Just as
The Godfather will be our standard for memorable gangster films of the 70's, and
Goodfellas and
Casino will be for the 80's and 90's,
This Thing Of Ours could very well be the most memorable gangster film of the new millenium."
I saw it twice during the ten days or so that it ran in one of two NYC theatres - both times in a near empty house. I understand that it never even opened in most cities, and although I do remember a couple of other members got a chance to see it, I don't remember who they were.
They still have a website up for the film
http://www.thisthingofours.net/ and I visit from time to time to see if there's any news about a VHS or DVD release, but so far no luck.
The cast also featured James Caan and Vincent Pastore from the Sopranos.
