I study "Film-science" and these exact examples where shown to us in college, so therefor I know.

The Odessa-scene is/was known as the single most famous scene in movie history for it's historical value, mostly because of it's innovative and revolutionary techniques. Film study or no film study, interested as I am in movie (and by that, it's history) I would have find out about this scene sooner or later and would have made the comparision with Brian DePalma myself.


To comfort you, "Battleship Potyemkin" is truly a hard film to watch, since there is NO protagonist, it's a long black&white collage of scenes, the movie is over 75 years old and by today's standards lacks quality in almost every era. But it's historical (and legendary) and therefor we saw it at school.
