Did any of you see the movie "Empire" with John Leguizamo? I myself saw it and thought it was pretty good. It had a few flaws and at times was predictable, but when it comes out on dvd i'll buy it. Thoughts? Opinions?

Hahahahahaha... I was gonna make a thread when I first saw the previews, but didn't waste my breathe. Looks HORRIBLE, got HORRIBLE reviews, and all my friends who saw it says it's HORRIBLE. Some small time, new director fucks up with this movie, trying too hard to be GoodFellas. "I got a 40 thousand dollar truck in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country. But no one touches it. Know why? Respect." -- "One day... One day some of the kids in the neighborhood carried my mother's groceries all the way home. You know why? It was out of respect." If that's not a rip off, I don't know what is. "I'm young, Latin, and good looking." "You see this here? This is family." Yeah, okay. You're a part of a drug dealing street gang. It's not "family", it's STUPID. I can't say ENOUGH to imply how bad this movie looks... I don't care if I haven't seen it; I trust my instinct. HORRIBLE.... Don't waste your money, guys/

This film paid tribute to some other gangster movies in several ways. But going to what Lombardi said, its not a mafia film. Its about modern day street gangs. I personally like all films from organized crime to street thugs or "gangstas" if you will. Its all good to me. Now some people like Mr.Lombardi probably don't like the street gang films and that's fine. But if you want my opinion, I thought it was a pretty good film. It seemed kinda remeniscent of Carlito's Way. As I said before if the whole street gangs thing doesn't annoy you, you can probably dig on this film. Also, Don Giorgio Gambino summed it up pretty well.

Thanks for calling me "Mr. Lombardi." :p I don't dig those kind of films... But, even if I did... It really is a rip off film. And it's really bad, even if I DID like those kind of films -- which I don't.

Well gangster films are few and far between. They don't come out all the time, so whenever there is a movie remotely about organized crime or street gangs I'll check it out.
From Empire:
"Its like my brother said, 'Keep your homies close, but keep your beef closer'"
"Man, get the fuck outta here! That's the Godfather!"
"That ain't the Godfather, that's my brother! You trying to tell me what the fuck my brother said?!"

I rented the movie and it turned out to be a rip off of Carlito's Way starring Al Pacino. It's pretty weird considering that John Luiguizamo is also a character in Carlito's Way. But anyway in Carlito's Way, Al Pacino is a famous gangster, and he wants to get out of the life and starts saving money and his girlfriend gets pregnant, so he gets a legitimate type of business and saves money so he and his girlfriend can go away and leave the life. But his friend screws up and winds up killing a pretty important guy putting Carlito (Al Pacino) back into the life and at the end, Carlito dies. This all pretty much happens in Empire also. I wouldn't recommend buying this movie.

I wanted to point out that in Carlito's Way, he starts out wanting to get out of the life of crime. In Empire, he realizes after things go too far.

I thought Empire could have been better. John Leguizamo has really matured in his acting! Did anyone see Body Count? Big difference!
