I own the VHS

Dustin Hoffman did play in "Dick Tracy", his character's name was Mumbles.
He has only a small part in this movie but there's a purple passage though : a scene in which he's cleaning Big Boy Caprice (Al Pacino)'s shoes. Hoffman and Pacino had been long time rivals and hated each other in real life, then they had been reconciled and I find the scene particularly interesting from a symbolic point of view since it's Hoffman who's at Pacino's feet -and not the other way round- as if acknowledging Pacino's superiority... But knowing the 2 men's sense of humor and irony, I'd say they thumbed their noses at the critics and film producers who had created this rivalry ! :p

And both played for free for their common friend Warren Beatty.
