Yes, Scarface, the De Palma version, is NOT a mob movie. Tony Montana is alone, he's a business man and has no organized mob which whacks ppl on his orders, he "just" make business with cocaine. I think of GF Trilogy as a film about a family's evolution, with the Mafia as a defining milieu. But I don't think of it as a "Mob" movie per se. To make an analogy: "Gone With the Wind" is a film about a family's evolution, with the Civil War as a defining milieu. But it isn't a Civil War movie. However, saying that, it's been over 25 years later and I still haven't seen a "gangster" movie, (Or possibly any movie) that excels in every aspect (Direction/Producing/acting/musical score, etc.) that comes anywhere near exceeding the GF.
