Originally posted by Don Vito: All Fools Die The name is FOOLS DIE. It was Puzo's follow up to the Godfather, so it was eagerly anticipated and started off selling well. But, if I recall correctly, sales started to drop off immediately after people started reading it and talking about it. It's the story of a rich old casino owner, and his number one guy. There's a plot, of course, which I don't really remember too well, but I do remember that it's filled with a ton of symbolism and allegory, and was a tough read. The writing style is far from the simplistic one used in GODFATHER.

It's hardly about a casino owner and his number one guy. Of course they're in there, but only for a small time. It is about an author, and his art. It's truly profound.

Exactly. And that old casino owner and his number one guy have names. Alfred Gronevelt and Cully Cross. Cully only comes into the novel when his interests meet up with John Merlyn's. And, although it does happen a lot, Cully is NOT the main character, has very little narrative parts in the novel (even less than Janelle I think), and his part in the plot is merely getting John out of trouble, and, on one occasion, into a situation which would have caused trouble. I would thank you to get your facts straight before you go off ranting about what someone called the book. He hasn't read it - you have. Having read it, of course you know the title - and you should know something of the plot. Thank you VERY much.

My correcting the title was hardly a rant, simply a correction. The reason it was capitalized was that some of us who write English capitalize (correctly) movie titles, book titles, etc. As far as the novel itself goes, I'm sorry that my review of the plot was not up to your standards. I read FOOLS DIE when it first came out, about 30 years ago, so I was a little fuzzy on the plot details. I'll certainly try to do better in the future. And now, if you will allow me a short comment: For someone who is a member here for two days, you've done a fair amount of criticizing. I especially enjoyed this post of yours from another thread in this forum: No, none of the other people who said exactly the same thing, asked the same question, and made the same point noticed that. Try reading the message board. A little rude, perhaps? Possibly unnecessary?

I apologize for being so rude, I just hate to see good literature talked about that way. And I understand that you read it a long time ago - thats just fine by me. But a critic couldn't get away with writing a review if he didn't know the book - why should anybody else?

And, by the way, the correct way to write a title includes quotation marks, italic or underlined print, and carefully placed upper case letters. Par Example: reference Go ahead. Try and prove me wrong.
