If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be something like a Baron (royal title). It's a figurative resemblence considering that it would be this person to represent the Clericuzio in his particular geographical area.

However, I can't remember why Don Clericuzio came up with the title Bruglione (mocking title that means something like Baron).
