Oh dear, where to start?
First of all, if you read somewhere that such and such dates have some significance to Muslims you discredit the article right there. Islamic dates vary every year, since the Islamic calendar is according to Moon rather than the Sun and it goes backward around 10 days each year compared to Julian or Jalali calendars. So whatever was being celebrated this year on Aug. 22nd, will be celebrated on Aug 12th next year.
Secondly, the date of return of the 12th imam along with Messiah, in which only Shiia Muslims believe, is not known but is said to be on a Friday. Mind you, he's been gone for quite a while and has been expected to come back each Friday for over thousand years. And of course this is one of the reasons why Sunni Muslims believe that Shiias have fallen out of religion, which is a serious crime in their book.
This year the Aug. 22nd, had fallen on the day that Muhammad was presented with Quran and was appointed to be the prophet and being an illiterate man that he was, due to a miracle was able to read the book. There is no other significance to this day except that event and most importantly the fact that we got the day off, so I slept till noon.
