Ok, heres the deal. Every year we got this Harley 'convention' going on...Harley clubs from certain locations in the US. It nothing official, just some kind of bikers' rendezvous. The main thing is not the convention, but the road trip which follows. So this year I'm in charge of picking the route and everything...only thing is, Im not even sure im gonna make it this year. Why not? heres the catch: a boxing match which was scheduled for THE SAME WEEK of the trip. Aint that sucks! again its nothing official, a small-scale competition, but it would certainly help me later if I win it. Right now Im in the best shape of my life, I was waiting for a chance like that, and my friends encourage me to go for it. But I really dont know now. You see, the trip is more than just riding a motorcycle....its about spending time with your best mates. Like I said, there are more clubs involvled, since Im in charge this year I already took care o everything, I cant change the dates...and of course I cant change the date of the boxing match. My friends tell me that we do this every year so I should go boxing and not miss my chance, but you know...every year has its moments, and its also a chance to meet friends from the other clubs that I havent seen since last year........so like the title says.........Im tornnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Thoughts? Opinions? Words o wisdom? Fame is listening.

I can see where you are torn Fame. You know in the end it'll be you who has to weigh the pros and cons, so consider everyone's opinion, and then do what's right for you. If you are really serious about the boxing match, and feel there is a chance for you, I'd say go with the boxing. It sounds like an opportunity that might night come around very often. Just my opinion! TIS

Perhaps deep down inside you know the answer, and may want to hear it from someone else. If not, I think the window of opportnity for boxing is much smaller than that of the motorcyle trips
As an aside (and I'm not sure this helps you), three years ago I missed watching a championship baseball game in which my son was playing to attended a scheduled dinner with business clients. While I've always been very involved in my kids' sports, the dinner was pretty important.
As it turned out, my son was the winning pitcher, had three hits, including a decisive 2-run double as they upset a previously undefeated team.
I'll regret my decision for the rest of my life. It was June 25, 2003.
So maybe I'm saying to follow your heart.
Best of luck on whatever you decide.

but you know...every year has its moments, and its also a chance to meet friends from the other clubs that I havent seen since last year........ Your words say it all. Its a small-scale fight and will only help you if you win? What about if you lose? Will there be other fights in the near future? Your friends are great. They are telling you to go, to let you off the hook. The Ride was YOUR event. Would you feel OK about missing it? Having something special happen and you weren't part of it. When the guys talk about it year to year are you OK with knowing that you missed it? Another thought. Is it possible that one or the other may not come off. Will they ride if the weather is really bad? Will the fights come off if there are only a few who sign up? For me, it would be ride with my mates. They will be a part of your life in the years to come.
