Although he did do a few movies, Don Knotts was basically a television star. We'll see him mentioned on the Emmy Awards this coming September. And I'm sure there will be a special tribute to him on the TV Land Awards later this month.
Anyway, even it they had intended to include him...Knotts died just a week before the Oscar telecast. They usually have those montages ready by then and there may have been no time to include people who happen to die within a week of the awards telecast.
