Yes. Understand yourself, and be honest with yourself, and then you can begin to understand people, and be honest with them.

I know a female who I understand more than she understands herself. In fact, I know a lot of people where that's the case.

As Edgar Allan Poe once verbosely described in the introduction to (I think) The Murders of the Rue Morgue, you can only see a star shining if you look at it peripherally. Look direct, and it begins to lose its shine.
