I thought that we could not get enough people to get the rooms at that price? How can Mignon book the rooms if enough people don't say that they are coming?
I was just going to book the other hotel because we didn't get enough for a group rate at Mignons hotel.

What should I do?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought at the other hotel it was "10" rooms we needed to get a group rate. Mig's deal was 8-10. I thought we needed 8 rooms, and were short by 2. The thing is, if we get the minimum of 8, and someone backs out for whatever reason, I'm guessing we'd pay full price, whatever that is.

If memory serves me correctly full price was something in the area of $200+ per night.

When I recieved PM's about this on Migs behalf, several told me that they could not commit right now, and a few others were not sure if they would be staying for two nights or just one.

I'm as definite as I can be for something that is nine months away, which is probably really all that anyone can say at this point.

I'd hate to be the one with a last minute problem or emergency that kills the group rate for everyone else.

The question still is, I think, if at the last minute we fall short with the size of our group do we have to pay the regular rate, and what exactly is the regular rate?

DC said he thought it was $200. If the choice is between $119 at the Wyndham, guaranteed, or $89 at the Hilton, but if we fall short with our group size we have to pay $200, I'd prefer the Wyndham.

Actually, though, here's a thought:

Let's say there are 7 of us, for the sake of argument.

At $119 per room at the Wyndham, it costs a total of $833.

If we have to book 9 rooms at the other place to get the group rate of $89, it only costs us $801 total, even if no one stays in the two extra rooms. So we save $32.

But if there are 7 of us and we can get the group rate by booking 8 rooms, we save $121 (7 x $119 vs. 8 x $89).

We could set up one of the rooms as a hospitality suite.....food, booze, dancing girls.....

Mig and Becky's efforts are really appreciated and I thank them for all they are trying to do.

But it would be a shame if they go through all this to get us a group rate and then several have to cancel for whatever reason and blow the group rate.

I think that rate jumps up to over $200 per night if the group rate is lost.

It wouldn't be fair to those who were still going, and more importantly it wouldn't be fair to Becky since she's the one working for the Hotel chain who's putting her reputation with her employer on the line.


EDIT : My mistake, the regular rate for that Hilton is $150 - $180 per night for friday to saturday. Then from Saturday to Sunday, the site says that there are NO rooms availble.

Whatever everyone decides is ok with me.

I just don't want to see Becky and Mig go through the trouble to do this for us and then a month before 3 people have to cancel. That wouldn't be fair to Becky or anyone else going for that matter.

I just got off the phone with Becky and I told her about how we need smoking rooms and what if someone cancels. She told me that there is NO minimum rooms. We are getting this $89 rate cuz of Becky's discount. They are holding 10 rooms for us. I put up my credit card to hold the rooms. Becky needs the following info ASAP:
1. first & last names
2. how many in room
3. smoking or not
4. how many nights staying

For those who want to go PLEASE PM me with the info. Sorry for the confusion.

FWIW, Everytime I've booked rooms they always say there's no guarantee that'll you get "smoking" room, but I've never had that happen.

The two times I met up with some of the BB gang (and in Vegas with SC/Lori) we sort of just played it by ear. I don't know Philly, but got the impression that there isn't a lot of touristy things there (don't know if that's what you had in mind). I'm open though.

I don't know what time those of you who drive will get there that Friday, but I'm guessing I won't be in til late afternoon/early evening, depending on my flight. But save a place for me at dinner. :p
