I'm sorry, too, Mig - I should've used some smilies to convey a lighter tone than perhaps what came across in my post.
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

Mig, I do appreciate (and thank you)for your help in finding a decent hotel and trying to get us better rates through your daughter's help. I can't be of any assistance giving my opinion on areas, but will assume every city has good/bad part, and am open to ideas. I am assuming that those who live in/around the same city, would (understandably) like to travel a little distance, so as to have more of a get-away, rather then staying at a hotel in their own town. Yet the few of us (or maybe I should just speak for myself )who are traveling a long distance for the most part, most likely would be happy in or around the Big Apple. I don't mind any of the choices we voted on, so I'll go with the flow. TIS

SC, While it's true, I definitely want access to NYC, if Philly is decided, and I can arrange a way to NYC, that's not a problem for me. If Chicago was decided, I'd just stay a couple extra days there and not go to NYC this trip. I'll have fun with you guys no matter where we are. Of course notice I'm omitting Vegas/LA (for lack of interest)....we'll save that for next year. I'll get you out here yet. Even if I have to make an offer you can't refuse. TIS

Its pretty apparent that TIS and Mignon want to have access to the City. Since they're travelling the farthest (by far) and they haven't spent much time in our town, maybe we should more seriously consider Secaucus.
Hell, most of us will be spending most of the time at the bar anyway.
Just a thought.
OK, bring it on.
(note to myself: bob and weave) Pox on me then! I can smell the burnt wood as I write this. :p SC, what you say makes a whole lot of sense. When you really think about it, TIS and MIG ARE the ones traveling the farthest and obviously are looking to make a vacation out of the trip, and understandably so. I know that if I were traveling out west to meet up with everyone, I would not be going for two days, but would also look to make a vacation out of my trip also. When you really think about it, those of us who live here in the east can really make a trip to Philadelphia for a weekend anytime that we want, being that it's really not that far for us to travel to. So in the spirit of both friendship and consideration, I think that we should reconsider and accomadate the desires and wishes of those who are traveling so far to spend time with us. I have no problem with Secaucus either. Don Cardi

If we do stay in the NY/NJ area, then there is a Hilton in NJ by the Meadowlands, 7 miles from the city: Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands that has an American cuisine restaurant, wireless internet access, and lounge. There is also a Hilton-owned Embassy Suites Hotel Seacucus-Meadowlands with similar amenities (steakhouse). The only problem here, is that there's really nothing to do in this area except perhaps visit Plaw's house. On the other hand, the rates are probably half that of staying in Manhattan itself for the Hilton (Embassy is more) - even though staying in the city has many benefits, of course. I was just going to link to the Hilton in Times Square, but that's over $400/night, and Doubletree is over $500/night! Jeez, even the Marriott Marquis is now over $400/night... beautiful hotel w/ a revolving rooftop restaurant I stayed in once for like $250

The Milburn (on West 76th St, not far from Midtown) is about $180/night. Just in case no one's checked the link yet. I would guess that as long as the accomodations are clean and comfortable, many would rather spend their $$$ on whatever get-togethers are scheduled. Apple

Well thanks for thinking of us so far away you guys. Just a couple comments if I may. Comment 1: I voted NYC, but I have nothing against Philly and last I looked it was in the lead in our voting poll. Would it be fair to change it? Wouldn't that be something like election "fraud"? Ha ha Just trying to be fair. Comment 2: If Philly is decided, is there any reason we can't meet-up later in the week in NYC for those who can't make Philly, even if just for dinner/lunch or a day outing or whatever? Or would that be way too much togetherness. :p Just more food for thought. TIS

Well, if you do want to stay in Manhattan, my husband and I recently stayed for the first time at the Sheraton in midtown. It was fine. The rooms were clean, they did have high-speed internet access (but there is a charge) and the location was unbeatable. It's on the corner of 7th and 51st, so it's a very easy walk to 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Radio City, St. Patrick's, etc. And the restaurants in that area are unbeatable. We paid only $199 for the night, which is great for midtown. Right now they are quoting $269 for the weekend of 8/18, but they do run specials. They have a romance package that includes breakfast for two that is only $249, they have a stay 3 nights and only pay for two. They have all different specials.

Hey I'm game for the race track DC I've never been to a race track. That might be fun as long as I don't have to see a horse drop dead. Assuming it's a horse track.

As far as I'm concerned you guys can choose the hotel. I'm not fussy as long as it's clean and not outrageusly priced. You know both NYC area & Philly and I don't. I'm sure you'll find a good place. I'll go with whatever you decide. Then, I'll just look on my own (I'm already browsing ) for a place to stay in the city after the convention. TIS
