Remember the scene where Lorraine Bracco tells Ray Liotta the she needs money? And when he asks her how much she replies " This Much" and her forefinger is about 5 inches over her thumb? Well that scene is based on a real life occurance; Mrs. Cardi and I before I leave for work in the morning! Believe me, if you ladies get together with her and go shopping, you gals could stimulate the economy in 2 hours! Hotel Services & Amenities Beverage Area, Complimentary Breakfast Area, Complimentary Lounge What we need to clarify is what type of lounge that they mean. I don't see anything about a bar under the dining options. As for the managers reception, it states "cold beverages." I know that the Embassy Suites in Downtown Manhatten has manager reception parties that are NON alcoholic, and they serve complimentary breakfasts also. While the one in Manhatten does have lounge areas, the hotel itself does not have a bar. If you want a drink you must go into the Chevy's restaurant that is attached to the hotel. So it is possible that Embassy Suites do NOT have bars in their hotels. A simple phone call should answer our questions. Don Cardi

I was doing some thinking and I want to put out an idea. Since TIS wants to stay in NYC for a few days and since me and Bec would like to visit NYC how about we have the '06 convention at this hotel: Hotel This way TIS is close to the airport. BUT I want to see what Bec's co-worker can get for us in Philly before we make a decision.

Sorry, but, as I've said, I got better places to stay than Newark -- including my own bed. I vote against Newark, whether we decide to go to NYC or Philly, or NJ for that matter. I'm sure we (locals) would all rather stay in our own homes than "vacation" in Newark, NJ.... Have we decided on Philly vs NYC yet? I thought we were going to Philly...?

As far as Newark goes, there are a wider range of hotels at various prices in Secaucus, not to mention the fact that it's a lot closer to Manhattan.

I'm no expert on the East Coast, only being in NYC once, I at least have an idea, but when it comes to Newark, I don't know nutin' about nutin' :p I guess I depend on those on the East Coast to pick a good/safe area. As far as where, I assume the choices are NYC/Philly, and last I checked Philly is in the lead. I'm glad to hear it's close to NYC. Also, FWIW, I was able to "clear" my commitments and I should be able to make the weekend of 8/18 providing it's approved at work, which if put in early enough (say by the first of the year), shouldn't have a problem. Originally posted by Sicilian Babe: ....Newark, where you can be rocked to sleep by the soothing sound of sporadic gunfire of yet another drive-by shooting.... Nope, I think I'd rather be in Philadelphia. I had to show up in Newark several years ago to be fingerprinted for my pending adoption...it was about a 20 minute drive from my home. To tell you the truth, the 'business' district really was not so bad, even bordering 'pleasant'. Same probably goes for the area near the airport where I think all the hotels under consideration would be. As for Philadelphia/NYC...wonderful cities that they are there are definitely parts of it where the identical same thing could be said regarding 'drive-by' shootings, so I hope we don't continue stereotyping certain areas. I still like the Secaucus idea put forth by plawrence...not that I'm voting or anything. Apple

Apple, If you would like to attend, I don't see why you shouldn't vote. The idea is to choose a location/time that's best for you. Nothing's written in stone yet. I'm sure you're right that every city has the "undesirable" areas, which is why it's good to know people who know those areas. As long as I can go to NYC from wherever we end up, I'm open. TIS

Actually TIS...between you & me only, I did vote. Ssshhhh!!! And speaking of NYC again, there's a hotel called The Milburn on Upper West Side ... it's a very pleasant residential area not far at all from the 'touristy' part of Manhattan. Also right near the subway which can get you anywhere in very little time. I'd be happy to meet anyone who's not familiar with NY and head for a meeting spot. Here's the Milburn link.... http://www.milburnhotel.com Apple

Please, please accept my apology. Of course your efforts are appreciated.
