Hi Mig, I don't know anything about the location, but it looks like a real nice hotel. I couldn't find their rates though. TIS

It's not really in the "center" of center city, but it's close enough. Much better location than the waterfront, IMO.

The Rocky Steps are at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is a pretty good one but a bit of a hike from center city.
As far as tourist attractions go, though, don't get too excited. The Art Museum is good and they also have an excellent Museum of Science and Natural History (The Franlin Institute).
Also, if you really like Fench Impressionist painting, visit the Barnes Foundation, which has one of the best collections in the world. Just remember to email them for tickets a couple of months in advance.
But aside from those, the only attraction I found of interest was Independence Hall, where the framers of the U.S. Constitution did their work. There's a whole tour (naturally) which was pretty interesting.
The Liberty Bell? You walk past a big old bell with a crack in it. The whole thing takes five minutes, not counting time spent waiting on line. Then there's the Betsy Ross House. Nothing remarkable about that. You get to tour the house and see the room where old Betsy put together our first flag. Fifteen minutes, tops.

Getting off track a bit, I read they are suppose to start shooting Rocky VI (I know I know) in Dec. of this year. How long does it take to shoot a movie?? :p Man, if they were filming while we were there??? Be still my heart. (assuming it would be filmed in Philly that is) It sounds like there isn't a whole lot of touristy things to do there. If we go with three days, will there be enough to keep us busy??? Or...we could stay two and movit it to NY for the third. Although, if all goes well, I intend to end up in NYC anyway. Rocky VI TIS

There's also decent shopping (altho nothing compared to NYC, of course), and a half a day of walking along South Street ("Where do all the hippies meet?") is a must.

Apple, I don't know the outcome, but wasn't there some sort of controversy over the Rocky statue? I believe that Sly wanted to donate it to the city after the movie, and they really didn't want it. I don't remember what happened, but do remember reading about that. Your memory serves you well. There is a mint right in the area. I went there in May of 2002 and unfortunately at the time, they would NOT allow people inside unless you pre-registered. I believe that they did that because of 9/11 and security reasons. I am assuming that they've changed policy back to normal. We can find that out with just a phone call. Originally posted by plawrence: There's also decent shopping . Ok Plaw, you killed me now! Now, DC, there's nothing wrong with that!! Mrs. C is a woman after my own heart. I am WAY behind in my Christmas shopping. I like to be finished by Thanksgiving, and I haven't started yet. Unfortunately, I always end up buying something I love for someone, and wrestling with the idea of keeping it. Everyone is always saying how they don't need anything anymore, our houses are too full. I tried gift certificates one year, and half of them were never redeemed. Sorry to get off on a tangent. Back to the topic at hand - Mig - ask Becky to find out about the Embassy Suites!
