Ajax striker Brobbey blackmailed for a long time, friend 'took a bullet for him'
Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has been blackmailed for a long time since the end of 2022. The Amsterdam/Antillean criminal Jeymon A. (31) is said to have told him at a festival in Amsterdam that Moroccans from Utrecht were looking for him. He said he had solved that problem, but demanded a large sum of money. Brobbey ultimately did not pay, Het Parool reports .

Incidents of violence
Then heavy fireworks were thrown through his mother-in-law's letterbox, an explosive went off at Brobbey's car in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and his sister-in-law's car was set on fire. A friend of Brobbey - who stood up for him in the private matter - was also shot on 9 July 2023 around 23:30 in the Isabella Richaardsstraat, in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. A bullet went through his intestines and bladder. Emergency surgery was needed to save his life.

'Bullet caught'
The man who was shot had subsequently indicated in a message intercepted by the police that he had 'taken a bullet' for the footballer. He did not want to tell the police anything about the background of the shooting, nor did he want to file a report. He did indicate that he was friends with the Ajax player.

More than a week after the near-fatal shooting of his friend, Brobbey receives a text message stating that he must pay 150,000 euros by the end of the month. 'Otherwise we will do it differently', it says threateningly.

No declaration
Ajax only became aware of the private matter afterwards. Brobbey did not want to press charges and also refused help from Ajax, fearing that the situation would only get worse. At first, he kept the extortion to himself and considered it a private matter. Only after the violence escalated and his phone was confiscated by the police at Schiphol, Ajax was informed.

Convictions
Jeymon A. (alias “Piccalo”) was sentenced to ten years in prison in November 2024 for, among other things, attempted manslaughter of Brobbey's friend, possession of a firearm and possession of 1.6 kilos of ecstasy pills. In September last year, he was also sentenced to almost nine years in prison for directing the removal of large quantities of cocaine from the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp for the fugitive drug lord “Bolle Jos” Leijdekkers.

In November 2024, Het Parool reported on the extortion of an Ajax player that led to a near-fatal shooting, but deliberately did not mention Brobbey's name at the time - also at the express request of his lawyer - because Ajax was still in the race for the championship at the time and because the reporting could have caused additional damage to the striker.

Long criminal record
According to the Amsterdam newspaper, Jeymon A. is known to insiders as a 'ripper' (drug thief) and drug dealer, who can easily access firearms. He has collected a criminal record of more than twenty pages since he was thirteen.
