Israeli defense sources confirm arms aid to Gaza gang
The Abu Shabab gang in Gaza received Kalashnikov rifles from Israel, sources in the Israeli Ministry of Defense confirmed to various Israeli media. The gang , led by Yasser Abu Shabab, received weapons "for protection," according to the sources, as part of an effort to strengthen the opposition to Hamas.

Abu Shabab operates in Rafah, in an area under Israeli control. The group claims to protect food convoys, but is also accused of looting aid shipments.

According to the anonymous defense sources, the arms shipments were approved by Prime Minister Netanyahu on the advice of the security services, but took place without the knowledge of the Israeli security cabinet.
