The US representative, Dorothy Shea, called the draft resolution “unacceptable” saying that:
Quote
the United States “would not support any measure that fails to condemn Hamas and does not call for Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza”.

The United States vetoed the decision. "The US refusal of the resolution should not surprise you," Acting Ambassador Dorothy Shea said.
1. "The US made it clear that it would not support any effort that does not condemn Hamas.
2. We cannot allow the Council to reward Hamas terrorism."

she said of the text that was put forward by 10 countries on the 15-member council:
"This resolution would undermine diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire that reflects the realities on the ground, and embolden Hamas,"

Israel also welcomed the US veto. Gideon Saar, Israel’s minister of foreign affairs wrote:
“I thank @POTUS and the US administration for standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel and vetoing this one-sided resolution in the UN Security Council,”
“The proposed resolution only strengthens Hamas and undermines American efforts to achieve a hostage deal.”

Ambassador Danny Danon said:
1. The decision presented today was a gift to Hamas and a significant boost to terrorism,"
2. "You chose appeasement and surrender. You chose a path that leads to more terrorism.

This decision sends a dangerous message to Hamas:
1. reject every proposal, and the international community will reward you.
2. Hold hostages, and the UN will legitimize you."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X shortly after the meeting ended:
1. "Thank you, America and Donald Trump, for once again showing our enemies that there is no daylight between us,"
2. "That is the only way to destroy the Hamas terrorists who are still holding 58 innocent hostages in the dungeons of Gaza.
3. The civilized world should demand their immediate and unconditional release."
