The activist group said on Saturday: A Freedom Flotilla Coalition boat will sail toward the Gaza Strip on Sunday in an attempt: 1. "to break Israel's illegal siege, 2. to stop their starvation of Palestinians ... 3. [and] their genocide in Gaza,"
The flotilla is set to include climate activist Greta Thunberg, actor Liam Cunningham and European politician Rima Hassan as passengers. The coalition will hold a press conference on Zoom ahead of setting sail.
UN official Francesca Albanese warned the passengers to "stay safe," and asked the international community to "make sure they are protected."
Earlier in May, another Freedom Flotilla Coalition vessel was struck by drones off the coast of Malta.
After around two and a half weeks, during which the activists negotiated with the Maltese authorities, the entire crew was evacuated from the severely damaged ship and, according to the coalition's announcement, returned to their countries.
