Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya said earlier that US President Donald Trump would announce that a cease-fire agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas.
Hamas denied there had been an agreement on its Al-Aqsa TV channel. Earlier Thursday, Hamas officials said they were still discussing the proposal.
A foreign source with details of the talks told Haaretz that the two parties are "not even close to reaching an understanding, as of now." An Israeli official said they did not know whether Hamas had agreed to the plan.
