The Netherlands wants the extradition of Harry Leijdekkers arrested in Turkey
Jos Leijdekkers' brother was recently arrested again in Turkey. According to well-informed sources of the AD , Harry Leijdekkers will soon be put on a plane to the Netherlands. He still has an outstanding prison sentence in the Netherlands.
Manhunt
Harry Leijdekkers was arrested in Turkey a year and a half ago, in December 2023. But during a hearing in April, the judge decided to release him. After an objection from the Turkish public prosecutor, he has now been arrested again. The Netherlands has reportedly requested his extradition.
Guessing
The Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands cannot confirm his arrest and will not respond to questions about an extradition request. His lawyer Guy Weski can also say little about it: 'I have not received any confirmation of his whereabouts to date, despite media reports. I do understand that it is only about money laundering. In my opinion, it is disproportionate to submit an extradition request for this while the other family members have never been in custody.'
To serve
Jos's eldest brother was sentenced to one and a half years in 2019 for possession of weapons, AD.nl writes. A year earlier, he had been cornered in Breda together with two accomplices in a stolen Audi RS4. He had a pistol in his waistband and there were two more firearms in the car, according to the court verdict. A large shopping bag revealed, among other things, a taped-up ski goggles, balaclava, claw hammer, brass knuckles, a stun gun, black gloves, handcuffs and tie-wraps.
Shortly before Harry Leijdekkers was sentenced, he fled the country. That is why he still has to serve 117 days of his sentence. In the meantime, the Netherlands has lost contact with the government of Sierra Leone, about the possible extradition of Jos Leijdekkers, the newspaper reports.
