In the Indian state of Gujarat, the population of Asiatic lions has increased from an estimated 674 lions in 2020 to around 891 individuals at the last count in May 2025.
According to Chief Forester Jaipal Singh, 384 lions have been counted in the Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. Interestingly, the other 507 lions are in areas outside the park boundaries.
