I agree the 80s were the best we had the Cold War and threat of nuclear weapons but it was also an inspiration for the great music.
Well, this was a time when people cared much less about politics. The news was background noise to most of us. I don't know what it was like in Holland, but me and my friends couldn't care less about politics back then lol
