FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

Luke Purdue (John Krasinski) is hired by billionaire Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson) to find the fountain of youth in order to save his life as he's dying from liver cancer. To accomplish his task, Luke enlists the help of his sister Charlotte (Natalie Portman). But are they searching for the actual fountain or is this a wild goose chase? The film loosely plays as a NATIONAL TREASURE rip-off where clues are left on historical artifacts which in turn creates a map to the fountain for the team. Unfortunately, this doesn't play as well as its predecessor. It's more comedy than action which isn't a problem for me save for the painful execution of the actual action sequences embedded throughout the film. They're obviously choreographed and neither Krasinski or Eiza González, who plays one of the protectors of the fountain, can pull them off without it looking silly. Not to mention, the story isn't interesting enough to move the audience at all but rather just waiting for it to evidently play out; which is shame considering the cast of director Guy Ritchie, Krasinski, Portman, and González. Seems like everyone took Apple's money and didn't bother to put forth the effort to actually earn it. I'm not sure if Apple is hopeful of this being a franchise starter but I'm here to tell you that it is in fact not. 5.5/10
