US-wanted leader of Los Chapitos drug cartel shot dead in Mexico
A leader of the notorious Mexican drug cartel Los Chapitos was shot dead by the Mexican army on Friday during a raid to arrest him in Navolato, Sinaloa. The man was Humberto Figueroa Benítez, better known as “El Perris” or “El 27”. There was a $1 million bounty on his head in the United States.

El Perris was considered a key figure and head of security for Los Chapitos after the arrest of Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, alias El Nini, in 2023. His criminal record included extreme violence, such as the torture and murder of a woman with fentanyl.
