'Ndrangheta and politics in Reggio, 18 on trial – NAMES
For 11 defendants the ordinary trial opens, for the other 7 the abbreviated one after the summer. The position of Neri and Sera still to be clarified

REGGIO CALABRIA Starting in September for the trial born from the “Ducale” investigation of the DDA of Reggio Calabria against the Araniti clan of Sambatello who allegedly played an active role in the regional elections of 2020 and 2021 and in the administrative elections of September 2020. The preliminary hearing judge of the Reggio Calabria Court – Francesca Mesto – has in fact ordered the trial before the collegiate court for 11 defendants. For another 7, however, the trial will be abbreviated.
The names
Among the 11 defendants are: Daniel Barillà (class of '85); Martina Giustra (class of '94); Caterina Iannò (class of '96); Natale Corsaro (class of '98); Antonio Pio Dascola (class of '01) – who will have to answer to the charges regarding the alleged electoral fraud in the “88” polling station in Sambatello. And then: Fortunato Bilardi (class of '40); Sergio Rugolino (class of '62); Carmelo Trapani (class of '73); Domenico Rugolino; Michele Marcianò and Nino Francesco Santisi. In the bunker courtroom for the abbreviated trial there will be: Domenico Araniti “the Duke” (class of '52); Pietro Araniti “Full” (class of '37); Francesco Araniti “U parenti” (class of '59); Antonio Modafferi “the architect” (class of '53); Nicola Dascola (b. '67); Giuseppe Barillà (b. '60) and Antonio Repaci (b. '59).

The position of the regional councilor of Fratelli d'Italia, Giuseppe Neri, that of the municipal councilor of the PD, Giuseppe Sera, and of the entrepreneur with a passion for politics, an expression of the Democrats, Daniel Barillà, still all to be decided. The first two, after the Court of Cassation had rejected the appeal of the Dda that had requested the arrest of the two politicians, did not appear in the request for indictment, and the same goes for Barillà. It will therefore be necessary to wait for the reasons of the Cassation that rejected the appeal of the Dda to definitively dissolve their position. (redazione@corrierecal.it)
