The 'Ndrangheta in hydrocarbons: four final convictions in the Supreme Court
Sentences have become final for four defendants in the trial held with an abbreviated procedure resulting from the investigation by the DDA

VIBO VALENTIA Four definitive convictions and seven annuls with referral. This is the verdict issued by the Court of Cassation (second criminal section) that decided on the “Petrolmafie” trial celebrated with an abbreviated procedure, born from the investigation of the DDA of Catanzaro. The defendants are accused, to varying degrees, of mafia association, extortion, fictitious registration of assets, money laundering, reinvestment of money of illicit origin, corruption, tax and excise evasion also through the issuing and use of invoices for non-existent transactions, political-mafia electoral exchange and disturbed freedom of auctions.
The verdict:
Final sentence, therefore, for Francescoantonio Anello (class of '89), Pasquale Gallone (class of '60), Giuseppe and Daniele Prestanicola (class of '82), all sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment. The same Court of Cassation also annulled with referral the sentences issued on appeal against: Salvatore Giorgio (7 years, 9 months and 20 days); Salvatore Rigillo (7 years, 1 month and 3 days); Giovanni and Armando Carvelli (over 3 years each); Alessandro Primo Tirendi (6 years, 7 months and 20 days); Orazio Romeo (3 years and 10 months) and Vincenzo Zera Falduto (2 years, 9 months and 20 days).
