so there ya go my best attempt in 2025 of the outfits bosses, any and all comments, criticism welcome. i will be following this up with lists for UNDERBOSS and 5 most active crews from 1992 and on.

Good chart Vito. It would make sense that Frank is now the acting boss as he's still in a good frame of mind and has lead a very clean career, staying out of trouble and being extremely productive and made the Outfit lots of $$$ over the last 50 years. He definitely is one of those guys that runs a tight ship , keeps his mouth shut and a low profile. He's sort of mysterious to be completely honest when you compare him to guys that came before him and had the same position.

How many of the living administration, or living soldiers/associates were around Nitti, Accardo etc, is it safe to say that anyone, even with a chance meeting, are long dead who were around Capone?

i would say no one in outfit of any rank met capone. as for accardo/nitti, i will say joe andriacchi who died last year was 91 so definitely had the age but who knows. delaurentis is a few years shy of 90 i think and was on the street when accardo was still around in late 80s.

Maybe one or two of the few old-timers that are left may have met Accardo a few times (or not). And even that's a long shot, IMO. But none of the few remaining guys ever met a Capone, Nitti, etc. That was long before their time.

next in my continuing series about the outfit and its administration i next focus on the UNDERBOSS position. same disclaimer as above and same timeline jan.1 1992 and on. also those in all caps are to be considered official UB.

Who knows they basically have the same setup that the Genovese Family had a powerful guy like Fat Tony was only a front boss for Philip “Benny Squint” Lombardo.

Salvatore Cataudella is the current acting boss of the Outfit. Caruso Sr. is second in command and Solly D is pretty much just used as an ADVISOR when needed.

Who knows if Solly D is even mentally fit anymore to make serious decisions for the organization? I don't talk to the guy nor see him anywhere so I can't give a yes or no answer.

VENA is pretty much retired in my opinion living in Florida, and Bobby Dominic has taken over his position as CAPO of Grand Ave. Fratto is running Elmwood Park and other than that, you got Cicero which is still ran by Sarno even though he's in prison. Wouldn't be the first time a boss runs things that way. Paulie C answers to Sarno and does what he says needs to be done for that crew.

a couple questions rush....

if cataudella is indeed acting boss, which is entirely possible, what position did he hold previous to being acting boss? UNDERBOSS, capo? i ask in all sincerity to be honest, i have no skin in this game of figuring out the outfit 2025. cataudella has ben named in past as UNDERBOSS, so is it possible he retains UB post while serving as acting boss, i think so. as far as being the capo of cicero crew this also seems possible with louis rainone in an acting capo position of that crew.

as far as delaurentis goes with his old age and recent health issues it is very possible he no longer holds the title of BOSS and has moved into role of senior advisor, advisor, consigliere, or is completely retired from any role. with that being a scenario, the outfit would have named a permanent BOSS instead of an acting boss, also in this case the BOSS could be cataudella.

finally i have to ask all gbb posters and outfit researchers if the chicago outfit even has an UNDERBOSS currently or has the structure changed slightly. an example being....

This is the thing, the Outfit is like the GENOVESE. We can speculate who has what in regards to responsibilities and titles but we really will never know anything beyond that. One of the guys running the entire thing may not even be a guy that the majority believe to be.

For example, I'm going to use Bobby Dominics name again here. That is a guy that is one of the very few guys left from the old school who's been around for a very very long time and worked for some serious individuals. Guys like Frank Schweihs, Joe Lombardo and Albert Vena don't choose you to work for them unless you are a very serious guy yourself who is a true professional at their craft. I'll leave it at that. He is highly intelligent in regards to the rackets he chose over the years, and has put himself in a position where he can keep a low profile and stay under the radar. Bobby never was one to go around killing people, dealing drugs or things like that which draw serious attention. Yeah he just caught an indictment for gambling but more than likely he will just pay a big fine to the FEDS and won't receive any jail time. A very serious $$$ maker though and earner and someone who knows how to do it well that is for sure. He also has invested his $$$ very wisely in real estate around the city of Chicago and if I was to place a bet, more than likely has investments down south also in Florida and the Caribbean.

Yes it's the same with the Genovese family both families are still a mystery when it come to members of an organization or society ranked according to relative status or authority.

it appears that upon creating list of possible cicero crew capos over the years i have stumbled upon a possible cause of friction in outfit and said crew in 2009/2010 time period. this alleged conflict has come across the years here on gbb and other sites and it is between the 'old guard of outfit' and younger cicero crew members. it has also been claimed that salvatore delaurentis stepped in at the behest of the administration to resolve this conflict and likely he was promoted because of it. is it possible this conflict had to do with who would succeed mike sarno as cicero crew capo. now whatever actual position sarno held at this time is still in dispute, some claim he was acting boss, i think acting underboss for a time. what is not disputed is that sarno was capo and with his dec 2010 conviction awaiting sentencing the crew would need a new capo.

but regardless of promotion one would think sarno would have appointed an acting capo, likely salvatore cataudella as it has been stated he was sarnos #2. so lets say sarno was acting boss, cataudella acting capo, this setup would have been in place before oct 2008 release of james inendino and possibly even mar 2006 release of delaurentis, if one is to believe sarno was acting boss this most certainly happened post apr 2005 family secrets arrests.

so is it possible that when sarno was convicted dec 2010, cataudella and other members of his street crew thought that by rights the capo spot in cicero crew should have gone to cataudella not who i believe did, james inendino. now step in a respected senior member in delaurentis and he rules in favor of the, well senior respected member inendino who at first takes over as acting and then as i have stated above full capo of crew circa 2012.

Their positions in 2009 aren't disputed. Mike Sarno and Sal Cataudella were Boss and Underboss by 2009.

Is there a possibility that the current Grand Ave crew has merged with Cicero?

to that im not really sure rush. it looks more and more as time goes on that the outfit is becoming a more streamlined family with cicero as the foundation of this. however i think that the crews whichever are left; cicero, 26th, elmwood park and grand avenue continue to operate with a capo of crew and report to an admin member, possibly still an underboss, similar to how any other mafia crime family operates.

but to expand on yer thought a bit, i think its possible at some point in time (2012-2014) that a part of elmwood park crew was put under control of vena and grand avenue. it is also around this time that most agree that peter difronzo was sick and much like his brother john were in the process of further retreating/retiring from rackets. so i think with no suitable pick for new capo of elmwood park crew, authority over guys like gary gagliano, anthony dote, gene cassano were placed with vena.

now around this time as well rudy fratto was released from prison on bid rigging and tax charges,nov 2013. one could think fratto could have been named capo but this doesnt look to be the case as we have heard more and more of his closer ties to the cicero crew.

so another question could be; did peter difronzo continue as elmwood park crew capo up until his dec 2020 death? with this scenario i suppose fratto then could have finally been named capo after difronzos death.

mafia that is a common belief about sarno and one i can see being plausible. and i know this has been talked about alot and in no way do i intend to make this an argument. my question is, at what time exactly did these 2 take over?

was it shortly after marcello was arrested and subsequently denied bond late april 2005?

after the disappearance of anthony zizzo in aug 2006, as some have listed zizzo as UNDERBOSS of the outfit around this time.

or possibly after sept 2007 conviction of marcello, when marcello and zizzo would have been totally out of the way.

so i see the 'sarno regime' having potentially 3 possible timelines....

1. (april 2005-dec 2010) - dec 2010 being around time of sarnos conviction.

2. (aug 2006-dec 2010)

3. (sept 2007-dec 2010)

carparelli would be considered a member of the cicero crew and more specific the sarno street crew. he was a 12th street player member decades ago was trusted with collecting debt after imprisonment of sarno and crew 2009. he is young, relatively and seems to enjoy being a mobster of repute and some influence. however i was of the belief that louis rainone is at least acting capo of crew, so perhaps time will tell who ultimately takes the reigns.

It's not a common belief it just true. Mike Sarno took over after Zizzo went missing. James Marcello tells his brother Michael Marcello Mike Sarno took over and Frank Calabrese tells his son the Boss is in Cicero now referring to Mike Sarno and unidentified sources told the FBI Mike Sarno and Sal Cataudella are running things.

Paulie Carparelli isn't Identified as a member and to even speculate whether he'll ever be Captain is pointless.

so with sarno and cataudella being promoted in lets say sept 2006+- after the disappearance of zizzo, does that then mean that zizzo was UNDERBOSS of all the outfit, the #2 previous to that?

and a follow up to that who then was acting boss of the outfit immediately after family secrets apr. 29 2005 when marcello had his bail chance denied? or was no one yet appointed until 2006. with that being the case the outfit would have been without an acting boss from apr 2005-aug 2006. which i suppose is possible as i believe marcello was imprisoned at chicagos MCC.

to yer point mafia about the 2 marcello bros talking about sarnos elevation in 2006, did this conversation take place at MCC? was michael marcello indicted in family secrets 2005, arrested, possibly released on bail but then allowed to still visit his recently indicted mob boss brother?

the alleged calabrese sr/jr conversation about sarno never happened. its just about timing mafia.

calabrese jr. started recording his father in 1998, while both were imprisoned. sarno was also imprisoned at this time only to be released in oct 1999.

these recordings did not last long as calabrese jr.s sentence was soon to finish and he was to be released. now it is possible jr. continued with visits to record his father after 1999 or 2000 release.

however if your contention is that these 2 discussed mike sarno becoming acting boss its impossible if sarno, according to you and facts only became acting boss in 2006. so when did these 2 find the time to talk about sarnos elevation?? is there a calabrese jr prison tape from late 2005 or 2006?

i think the conversation you are referring to was indeed between sr. and jr. but likely took place between years 1998-2000 and sr. was talking about the succession of bosses in outfit. frank sr. is saying most media law enforcement thought certain outfit guys were THE BOSS when in fact the real boss was in cicero, i.e. carlisi, monteleone, tornabene, marcello all which came before sarno. more specifically sr. likely is talking about monteleone although i dont believe any names were dropped on recording.

I made some mistakes. The Frank Calabrese conversation and the Marcello brothers conversation were about James Marcello taking over as Boss and Al Tornabene being Acting Boss for James Marcello. But by 2007 two unidentified informants had Mike Sarno as the Boss.

now onto the latest outfit crew to become defunct, the melrose park crew. there continues to be a debate as to if melrose park was its own separate crew from cicero, or a street crew working under the larger cicero crew. i am of the opinion that up to disappearance of anthony zizzo, melrose park was its own crew. after zizzo was gone it is assumed the cicero crew absorbed what was left of the crews territory and any associates/members of crew.

* when trying to get this crew succession timeline it became apparent that the common belief is that angelo lapietra retained title of capo while imprisoned and used his brother james as acting capo from 1986 to james sept 1993 death. lapietra then subsequently used acting capos to control crew until his june.7 1995 release date. i may have that release date wrong but was only one i could get off bureau of prisons site. i suppose it could be another a. lapietra that was released so if anyone has a correct date for this that would help.
