One Of The Last Of The Mohicans: Longtime Gambino Mob Shot Caller “Jo Jo” Corozzo Dead At 82, NYC Mafia Mourns
December 5, 2024 — The Gambino crime family lost highly-regarded elder statesman Joseph (Jo Jo) Corozzo this week. He represented the Gotti faction of the organization and controlled mob turf in New York, New Orleans and South Florida.
The 82-year old Corozzo died of natural causes Monday. If there was an LCN flag, all Five Families would be flying it half-mast right now and the rest of the month.
The Sitdown podcast and former Gambino mobster Michael (Mikey Scars) DiLeonardo broke the news of “Jo Jo” Corozzo’s passing Wednesday afternoon. DiLeonardo, who joined Team America in the 2000s, also belonged to the Gotti camp within the Gambinos.
Hailing from Brooklyn and living portions of the year down in Florida, Corozzo served as the Gambino mob’s consigliere and rumored final-say for two decades (1992-2011). His son, Joseph Corozzo, Jr. is one of the best criminal-defense attorneys in New York.
Originally, Jo Jo Corozzo and his mafia-skipper brother Nicholas (Little Nicky) Corozzo were rivals of future Gambino don John Gotti, but eventually became part of his inner circle and two of Gotti’s most loyal and valuable disciples. His last stint in the feds was seven years for racketeering (2008-2015) from two separate cases running concurrently. Besides his son, Joe, Jr, and “Little Nicky,” he’s survived by his other button-man, brother, Blaise Corozzo.

He was one of the last made guys involved in the boxing rackets. He "owned" Boxing Hall of famer James "Buddy" McGirt.
Initially, Buddy McGirt was with Eddie Sciandra, the Consigliere of the Bufalino Family, but JoJo Corrozzo took over after paying a small amount to Sciandra. Then McGirt 's career was on the rise and Eddie Sciandra tried to come back in the deal saying he was originally on record with him but the decision went to the Gambinos
