Why is it that Calabrians and Sicilians seemed to have kept coming here from time to time and get involved with the mob, while not so many from Naples,Bari, etc

Thats not true, Havana. Many guys from all of those provinces kept coming. Maybe less Barese, but among the Napolitani, Calabrese and Sicilians there were many. Even today, although nobody speaks about it, and most people don't even know about it, many Campania and Calabria "imports" jump between the raindrops and still operate in the New York area (that I am aware of.) I cannot speak for other cities.

That's interesting. What kind of rackets do newcomers usually jump into, especially since maybe they don't always speak English and most of the "vices" are run by government.Maybe contruction ?

LOL. Well now, thats another story altogether. There's not much left.

But the "zips" for lack of a better word, mostly operate within their own personal network, and don't mix up with the American guys too much (although they check in with the NY bosses and put what they need to 'on record' as is required of a 'visiting' out-of-towner.)

Smuggling narcotics and wholesale distribution, running their own card games, with video slot machine parlors in private clubs, shakedowns and strong-arm extortion among a limited crowd, construction schemes, cash pizzerias and restaurants, etc., etc.
