What is certain is that he was last seen alive with Lucchese soldiers Peter "Rugsy" Vario and Bruno Facciola whom he thought were taking him to the place where he was going to be inducted.

My opinion is that he was killed by the Luccheses. Not necessarily by these two guys but i believe the whole thing was done by the Luccheses (from him being taken to the place, the shooting and then the disposal of the body).

Another version is that Gambino soldier Tommy Agro did it. The Luccheses would have let the Gambinos do the killing because DeSimone had previously killed a Gambino made guy (William "Billy Batts" Bentvena). I find it hard to believe because that's not how mob hits usually happens : one family bringing the guy to a place and then another family shooting him dead. It doesn't work like that.

I know there are cases of guys being killed by another Family with the approval of their own Family (Gerry Pappa, John Simone,...) but I don't know any case of a "two-families hit".

In that case, there's no need to send a message. The Lucchese approved his killing and the Gambinos know he is killed because of what he did to their guy so neither the Lucchese or the Gambinos have any reason to leave the body on the streets.

I agree I think the Lucchese’s did the killing to appease the Gambinos after he had killed their guys. As for his body it was easier to just get rid of it. As others have said no murder investigation if he just disappeared. The Gambinos did something similar around that same time with Anthony Plate who was going to be on trial with Neil. The Gotti crew not only got rid of Plate but got rid of his friend and even his car so nothing could be traced back

So easy to cover up a crime back then with no DNA or Forensics like they have now. Guy was dismembered more than likely or thrown in the ocean and the sharks ate him eventually. If it was up to me I would have done exactly that, just chop his body up and throw him into the water and let the sharks come and feed on him.

So the same way Hoffa was discarded, he was chopped up, presumably by different people than the ones who killed him?

Another question, why didn't LA have any input, I thought his uncle or cousin, can't remember the relation title, was a boss or higher-up within the LA family?

No one knows that is the answer. Henry (Rat) Hill made him famous, but he dd not know as much as he tried to make it seem as he did. DeDimone had a lot of his activity going on with outsiders, possibly way more than he did with mob members. I'll give a theory just for everyone to give a thought to: He may have been killed by people outside of the Mafia. It's also likely other associates killed him. He seemed to have a lot of feuds going. A last thought, maybe Burke killed him! No body was ever found.

I think the Lucchese's were gonna hit Tommy anyway. He was becoming a psychotic pain in the ass.
It was a smart little bit of politics to make Gotti think that it was a favor to him because of Batts and Jerothe

Lucchese guys did the hit,and made Tommy disappear.
I don't believe for a minute that Gotti or Agro was involved in any aspect of the actual operation.

Tommy was a little pissant who wasn't even made.
Why involve another Family?
The less people who are involved,the better. You gotta minimize the potential rats.

It's not a smart idea to potentially expose yourself over a nobody like "Two-gun / Shoeshine" Tommy DeSimone.

That's just my 2 cents worth.

Agree. DeSimone was a young associate. No way would 2 families get involved with an insignificant figure. He was killed by the Vario crew.

I never bought the whole “Gotti killed Desimone” thing, that was just a myth. True he wasn’t an made guy or anything more of a nuisance but I do think it’s possible that the Gambinos and Luccheses discussed this since he did murder two Gambinos associates but yeah I agree the Luccheses dealt with it internally like in the movie

Thats probably the best answer Crusher and very likely what happened. Because he was close to Jimmy Burke and with the Vario crew, Gotti requested DeSimone's head to which Vario probably said "no problem but we willl take care of it". Im sure Vario didn't love the fact that he had to clip DeSimone but he understood why he had to go for a variety of reasons.
