I swear to fuckin god, when you compare the guys in Chicago to New York, its not even a debate. The majority of mob guys in the windy city just don't give a fuck about dressing nice.

They just don't! Yeah if they have to go out to dinner somewhere with their wife, ok they will put on something nice.

But when it comes to everyday wear, these guys just dress like they are hanging out in a biker bar. Now I will admit, the old timers who are in the Outfit dress pretty well, but thats because they are old school to the core and how its always been for them.

Now in regards to New York? You got way more mobbed up guys who dress the same way on a daily basis as they do when they are going out to dinner with their wives or for drinks at a high end establishment in Manhattan.

Can someone explain why there is such a big difference in fashion when you compare the mob culture in New York vs Chicago? Thank you.

BTW I know there are some guys in New York and Jersey that dress like shit as well but you got a way higher % of guys out there that take pride in their appearance compared to Chicago.

I know some of you mob historians can explain the reason behind this.

I enjoy the conversation you provide on this forum, truly. You always are good about starting threads and most of them are good, engaging topics to chat about, but your infatuation with how these guys dress is a bit odd.

Go run down to Capri or a spot on Grand Ave and ask them why.

See that where its different. All the guys dress nice when they are at Capri or La Scarola.

I'm talking everyday wear. NY guys are way more into fashion and instead of a cut off t shirt and jeans they instead wear a pair of slacks or designer jeans and a button down shirt with a nice pair of shoes.

If its athletic wear its always high end stuff.

Now old school guys in the Outfit still dress well on a daily basis but thats because they are OLD SCHOOL.

GIGI Rovito is in fact the best dressed mob guy right now under the age of 60. He's always in dress clothes. I don't even ever think I've seen him in a pair of jeans out in public.

At the end of the day Chicago is a major street gang city. Of course the biggest and best known gangs are going to be the African American (GD's, BD's, VL's, Stones...) and the Puerto Rican/Mexican (Latin Kings for example) ones since by far most of the drug trafficking rings and murder cases are connected to those gangs...but you can't overlook the fact that Chicago traditionally has a ton of white street gangs as well. Italians, Greeks, Irish, Appalachians/Southerners and Assyrians all migrated in substantial numbers to Chicago and formed their neighborhood cliques that all operated like legitimate street gangs and most of these gangs are still around. White hoodlums that are looking for a career in organized crime will naturally gravitate towards the Outfit with Italians looking for a made man title and the others can become associates. Seeing a substantial number of them will have a legit white street gang background it's not surprising that their attire is going to come across as more "urban".

New York doesn't recruit the same kind of people as the Outfit does? That is what you are saying which explains the difference in Fashion out there?
