The mob isnt a gang where the members have tatoo that show their position on the hierarchy! Its an organization that (should) operate in the shadow. Today given the low quality of many mobsters or wannabes,to have a good,loyal and moneymaker associate is a very good thing and this associates have more respect on the streets that many mobsters.
