People always love to say that rats never get killed, but evidence suggests otherwise. It's rare, but it does happen. Here's a few:

Bonanno rat Joseph D'Amico didn't get killed, but he got his ass kicked in 2016. Any others? These are the ones I can think of right offhand.

Gino DiPietro was accused of being a cooperator. It may not have been the reason for his murder though

Joseph Rossi - Gambino informant killed by informant Nicholas "Nicky Skins" Stefanelli after he blamed him for snitching him out February 24th, 2012.
The real story is that Stefanelli become a rat for save his son from a lenghty sentence for drug and Rossi was who ratted on Stefanelli son.

Lucchese soldier Eugenio Giannini in 1952, though it may have not been the reason.

I see that list and think of Bulger, who was never going to be killed if they had not put him in a row of cells next to guys who wanted him dead, then left him unattended. I usually never believe in conspiracy theories, but that one looked like a complete set up.

Liggio, Gene Giannini was specifically killed because the NY mob found out he was an informant for the "junk" agents. In fact, Charlie Luciano himself was the one who sent back word to America about him.

So Furio, did Nicky Skins kill Rossi for ratting out his son?

From what I read, the weeks and months leading up to Bulger being transferred there, he was being incredibly rude and mean to nurses trying to treat him and then prison guards.
So he was being transferred around due to his sudden behavior change.
Almost as if he was over it and was ready to but put out of his misery, he had lived long enough and his health was not good.
He was warned about his behavior and he kept it up so wardens had no choice but to move him around, so he wound up where he wound up.

Not crying, but come on, many inmates misbehave, worse than what you describe. I hate Bulger, but it seems like a set up. What do you mean they had no choice, they have the entire federal prison system at their disposal. They could have placed him anywhere. They put him near a guy who wanted him dead, they made it known he was there, then left him unguarded with his cell dood unlocked.

Ernest Rupolo, not a made member but a guy who ratted on a few, he was killed and dumped in the river.

They don't have to be made, organized crime members and associates, hell, even members of other organizations. It's all fair game.

The important thing is that after the 2000 only few rats was killed because the mob dont think that to kill a rat after the damages he it made worth any attention from the media and law enforcement.
Riccobene was killed in 1993 and now D'amico was only beaten up.

Little Joe Napolitano and Big John Jannoni, made men in the Patriarca crime family. In 1978, they were found wrapped up in a car and shot three times each in the head. Napolitano was outed as an FBI informant in a recent trial.

The rogue FBI agent, John Connolly in Boston, got a few informants killed by Bulger and Flemmi. Brian O'Halloran and John McIntyre for starters.

Murder Inc.'s Abraham (Kid Twist) Reles was thrown out of a window at Coney Island's "Half Moon Hotel" because he was a rat.

Brooklyn hoods Peter La Tempa and Ernest (Ernie the Hawk) Rupolo both turned on Vito Genovese in a murder case and later got killed for it.

Nightclub owner Conrad Greaves got killed for info he was providing to the Queens DA's office against Genovese capo Pasquale (Patty Mac) Macchiarole.

Etc., Etc., Etc....there are plenty of cases where mob informants got killed for their "verbal" indiscretions.

The list of suspected rats who were killed or people who they feared would cooperate, is likely a longer list than the actual rats who were killed.

I personally agree although killing around 15 rats (only the ones who publicly testified or were uncovered for giving out specific info) during a 50/60 years period, its not that bad especially when we speak about the Americanized Italian Mafia.....Chicago killed at least 6 or 7 public rats in a 30 year period or from the 1950s until the 1980s (only God knows how many rats they killed before that) and so if we add the rest of the families, I think they have a good number for such "ancient" secretive organization.
