I just saw someone on Reddit say that Anthony Accetturo, aka Tumac, was appointed by Lucchese don Antonio Corallo, aka Tony Ducks, to head the New Jersey faction of the Luccheses without him being made. This is a huge allegation and I just couldn't resist making a thread about it. Is that true? Was he even made?

Selwyn Raab wrote he was made in 1976, Joseph Abate was his sponsor.

In that case, it is likely that Acceturo was put in charge of the Jersey faction at a time when the books were closed and he was finally made in 76, the year they reopened the books. That makes sense.

It must have been weird for the Jersey guys who were already made but if that's what the boss wanted, they had to go with it.

Interesting story anyway. the only case i know of a non made guy being appointed to a commanding position was Ralph Natale in Philly but even then, Joey Merlino had him made right before he became boss.

This was all because the books were closed. I think closing the books was stupid, either you want to make a guy or you don't. Then putting non-made guys in charge of made guys just looks bad and can't be good for the mob's image or their morale.
