Milan's level of danger is moderate. Milan is remarkably less criminal than Rome , Naples , Paris , Toulouse , Barcelona or London. But like any big city there are certain neighborhoods where tourists should not come.
I'm agree, Milan was by far more violent in the 1970s and 1980s than today; the worst neighborhoods like Quarto Oggiaro or Barona are still heavily populated by southern italians
Back then most notorious was Comasina, now it's a nice district with pizzerias, trattorias and bars frequented by many students from the nearby Università. Many young people.
