Last week, Gerry Hutch returned to Ireland after spending 12 weeks on holiday in Spain.

Irish crime gangs are interesting, seem to be quick to kill. Especially that Hyland, E Dunne, Fat Freddie feud era. Say 2005 to 2015.

Did anyone of the old IRA terrorist group (Or freedom fighters if you see them that way) gravitate into this type of crime group in Ireland? The IRA was at its peak in the 1980's, I can see many of the younger members of it still being in their 50's today.

If anything, the IRA today is closer to being just another criminal group that it is to being a terrorist or freedom fighting group. It was formed with good reason, first in the Irish Civil War in the 1920's (Original IRA) and then the Provisional IRA in the 60's (as a response to British Army atrocities against Catholics - if you ever have a chance to watch the movies Bloody Sunday, or the Ballymurphy Precedent (currently on Prime) amongst others. But now, after the cease fire, the splinter groups are more into making money any way possible.

The INLA is not mentioned much also notorious. Like Willie Gallagher who Gerry Hutch claimed offered to kill James ‘Jaws’ and Sadie Byrne in the aftermath of the flash funeral of their son David.

It really escalated after Gary Hutch's murder, but the Regency Hotel attack aimed at Daniel Kinahan was unlike other hits 'pure terror' .
Don't forget the Continuity IRA claimed responsibility for the AK47 attack. The Continuity IRA is believed by Gardaí to have been involved in a number of gangland killings in Dublin and Limerick.

‘Important questions’ for Gerry Hutch to answer as top cop calls on Dail hopeful to tell voters ‘where money came from’

A FORMER top Garda has called on Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch to be "transparent" over his finances during the election campaign.

Retired Supt Martin Mooney, who was based in Hutch's old stomping ground, believes voters are entitled to know how he funded his property empire.

Mr Mooney, who also led the investigation into the murder of Eddie Hutch, told of his surprise over the Monk's decision to stand in next week's election.

"Gerry Hutch is idolised in the north inner city because he was seen as the saviour of the Corinthians boxing club.

So far, the Monk is in contention to be elected in the Irish parliament. The vote took place two days ago and the results should be today.

Ireland has a complex voting system so we shall wait but, at this hour, he is standing a chance.
