There is the 'Ndrangheta in Verona, sentences of 150 years in the trial of the Giardino clan
A mafia-type organization linked to the ' Ndrangheta also operated in the province of Verona . The sentence issued in recent days by the Court of Verona is one of the many "historical" pieces of a mosaic that now permeates the whole of the North. There were twenty defendants accused of having operated illegally, in various capacities, in favor of the so-called Giardino clan, a piece of Calabrian organized crime transplanted in Veneto. The prosecutors of the Venice DDA have contested, in addition to the mafia-type criminal association, also the crimes of extortion, fraud, money laundering, corruption, bid rigging, false invoices, drug trafficking. The prosecution system was largely confirmed: a total of almost 300 years in prison had been requested. The picture held up: 150 years of imprisonment inflicted, six acquittals,

The heaviest penalty, 30 years' imprisonment, was imposed on 54-year-old Antonio Giardino , known as "il Grande", considered the undisputed leader of the "locale" Scala. Thirty years in prison also for his brother Alfredo Giardino ; 23 years for Michele Pugliese (considered by the investigators a sort of deputy to the boss). Instead, the wife of Antonio Giardino, Antonella Bova, was acquitted, owner of Giardino Costruzioni, for which 26 years' imprisonment had been invoked as, according to the public prosecution, it would have been used by the spouse to make his own illegal operations legal.
