My take, makes no sense to me as to why Barzini's family would bother with Fabrizzio “apparently paid off a debt” when Barzini is dead [if the Baptism murders were in 1955] and the family is in disarray, pretty much exterminated! just ask Paulie....
Of course it doesn't make any sense! That's why I started this thread--to see if any insightful posters here could offer some constructive ideas,

- “...Fabrizzio came in around 1956, sponsored by the Barzini Family." after Barzini is dead and seemingly the Barzini family no longer in business....
However if Fabrizzio came to America
prior to the Baptism murders, it makes sense! Barzini paying off their “debt”
- Fabrizzio's assignment was to plant the bomb in the car which he did successfully – mission accomplished
- Apollonia drove the car before Michael - was not Fabrizzio's fault
Michael: Fabrizio!
Fabrizio Yes...
Michael: Prepara la macchina [get the car]
Fabrizio Are you driving yourself, Boss?
Michael: Yes...
Fabrizio Is your wife coming with you?
Michael: No -- I want you to take her to her father's house til I know things are safe...
Fabrizio Okay -- anything you say, Boss
- Fabrizzio even made sure, the driver would be Michael not Apollonia
- I doubt Fabrizzio could have done anything more....
