Ambush in the Vibonese area. A 30-year-old man, Alessandro Morfei, (already known to the police), was shot several times while on board his tractor in the municipality of Dinami. He then died in the hospital of Vibo Valentia, where he had been transported and where the doctors immediately noted the seriousness of the clinical picture. The murder happened along the road that leads to the village of Serre Vibonesi.
Killed a few hours before his birthday: Alessandro Morfei would have turned thirty. Five rifle shots, behind and in the chest, while he was driving home on his tractor along a small street in Dinàmi. A mafia-style ambush. Probably done by a professional. The killer was hiding in the bush on the side of the road, he shot and fled without leaving a trace: not even a shotgun cartridge, the carabinieri say.
At the moment, the investigators are not ruling out any leads. But on the murder there is the shadow of organized crime.Alessandro Morfei had small precedents, but his father Pietro in Dinàmi was considered a boss. In July 1998 he was riddled with bullets by a rival commando while he was drinking a coffee in a bar in Monsoreto. The murder of Alessandro would be just the latest settling of scores between criminal families of the Preserre. A long trail of blood that began many years ago.
