The cop is being charged with obstruction and lying to the FBI according to tv reporters. I would think lying to the fbi would be the obstruction charge, not a different charge as I'm reading it. Maybe just typical bad reporting or maybe I'm missing something. I can't believe they're not throwing in some kind of conspiracy charge on him.

That's the first time I've heard of a soccer club. What exactly does a place like that do? How do they generate money (besides in this case)? Is it a specialized gym or something? I don't follow the sport.

But that would be on the higher side of things. Because at the end of the day, despite any government posturing to the contrary, there was no actual violence in this case. Only alleged threats. Essentially it's a glorified gambling case.

Most importantly is there are no INNOCENT VICTIMS...

True. Nobody forces you to place a bet. And if you win, you get paid. So if you lose, don't be a bum, pay your bookie. If you get in over your head then thats all on you. It's no different than blowing your cash elsewhere at OTB, the track, or AC. It is what it is.

IMO there are no innocent victims like BH said.

The silent victim in the scenario would be the legal gambling operation that incurs expenses in order to operate in a legal, and hopefully ethical manner.

Not that I care, I don't gamble.

The legal ones are run by the government, Plus these men did incur expenses such as rent, and paying workers. I won't count bribing cops.

Something tells me that the public would rather gamble with mob figures anyway. I mean, they're charming, charismatic, and then there's the allure. I think people like being around guys they feel might be dangerous, not to mention I hear that mob-run gambling networks offer better odds.

The big allure is that you don't pay taxes on your winnings if you hit a winnings streak. A second big allure is that you can bet on "credit" instead of having to pony up upfront cash. Those are the two biggest draws to betting with a corner bookie. Not to mention the fact that there's no public record of your betting and loss history. Many folks like the anonymity of that.

The public? No.

A very small percentage of the public? Yes.

I saw a pic of Anthony Pipitone, dude's wearing a sweatsuit, these guys have absolutely no class anymore. What a sloppy representation for your gambling establishment.
