Despite ample school security plan, Texas shooter found gaps
Robb Elementary School had measures in place to prevent this kind of violence. A fence lined the school property. Teachers were ordered to keep classroom doors closed and locked. Students faced regular lockdown and evacuation drills.
But when an 18-year-old man arrived Tuesday at the school in Uvalde, Texas, intent on killing children, none of it stopped him.
Security failures allowed the shooter to massacre 19 students and two teachers, school safety experts say. The shooting already has led to calls to fortify schools further, on top of millions spent on equipment and other measures following earlier shootings. But more security offers drawbacks, with no guarantee of an end to mass violence. In the worst case, as in Uvalde, it could backfire.
In this special episode, we sat down with Victor Avila, former ICE special agent and author of “Agent Under Fire.” He talks about China’s role in getting illicit drugs like #Fentanyl over the border and into the United States, how widespread trafficking is in the country, and much more.
‘Very angry’: Uvalde locals grapple with the Police Chief of the 'school district' Pete Arredondo
The blame for an excruciating delay in killing the gunman at a Texas elementary school — even as parents outside begged police to rush in and panicked children called 911 from inside — has been placed with the school district’s homegrown police chief.
The 50-year-old Arredondo has spent much of a nearly 30-year career in law enforcement in Uvalde, returning in 2020 to take the head police job at the school district.
Arredondo, who grew up in Uvalde and graduated from high school here, was set to be sworn in Tuesday to his new spot on the City Council after being elected earlier this month...
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. -- The manager who misplaced a decimal point at a Northern California gas station pricing premium gas for just 69 cents a gallon has now been fired.
The manager at the Shell gas station in Rancho Cordova, Calif., accidentally moved the decimal point to the wrong spot.
Hundreds of drivers ended up getting the cheap gas for several hours before the mistake was discovered costing the gas station $16,000.
Troubling new reporting offers a different account of the Uvalde Police’s response to the school shooting that left 21 people dead. The Texas Tribune’s Editor in Chief Sewell Chan shares that officers may have had more tools on hand than first thought.
Fellas, overturning Roe vs Wade doesn't make abortion illegal. It just means the federal government shouldn't have a say in the matter. Will some states outlaw it? Of course. Will other states encourage it? Of course. So please don't believe that by overturning Roe vs Wade that abortion is illegal in this country.

I think everyone understands that, but for all practical purposes, abortion will not be available in large swaths of the country. I don't like abortion, but I do think it's necessary in some cases, unfortunately. I liked Tulsi's bill that would have outlawed abortions for fetuses capable of feeling pain and helped save the lives of those who survive abortion.
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

It's too early. I hope she does run, but she might run (no pun) into serious problems if she runs as a Democrat. The DNC doesn't want her. Many Republicans love her, but I don't think they'll take her over DeSantis or Trump. And so many others. She is basically a liberal. A classical liberal. That word can get a bit confusing because most of the "liberals" of today are slime.

Sorry my man, but cars, buses, and planes still come in and out of California, New York, and other Democratic "utopia's" on the reg. You want an abortion, go to one of those states. Just glad my tax payer dollars aren't funding it anymore. #defundplannedparenthood

She's not "woke" enough for the Democrats. Would absolutely LOVE to see her switch as a Republican and run but I'm not banking on it.
“At the end of the day, if you say something is unconstitutional you have to show me where,” said the Yale law professor. “Roe v. Wade says it is unconstitutional to prohibit abortion before viability, basically 22 weeks. If you look at the Constitution, it doesn’t say anything about abortion one way or another…. Roe v. Wade doesn’t even quote the language of the Constitution that it says is applicable, which in effect says that liberty and property can be restricted with proper legal procedures.”
In response to people who criticized the decision for upending Supreme Court precedent, Amar argued that the primary law of the land is the Constitution -- not the precedents. In his view, decisions that do not arise from the Constitution itself should be “thrown overboard.”
“Precedents can and should be disregarded when they’re egregiously wrong,” he said.
