I think a few old timers did tv interviews, Galante once spoke to reporters, there is a video online of it. This was an extended interview though. I think since he was not made he could do it. They were trying to counter all the news coverage. The prosecutors due a lot of news interviews and almost do an online trail against a defendant. the Gotti people were looking to combat it with this one interview. Nothing was going to help at that point.
I agree the Gotti's did this with Jr. Vickie wrote a book and released it right when the jury was about to deliberate
She wrote a chapter or somehow included that Jr. Quit the Mob,
And that part ran in the news cycle that he quit
In an effort to sway the jury.
They did multiple things such as that to try and out smart or battle the prosecutors
I personally dont think they get enough credit as a whole
At this point they are an easy target
