The Washington Department of Justice has demanded four years in prison for the wife of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who is himself serving a life sentence. Emma Coronel Aispuro , 32, was arrested in February at Dulles International Airport outside Washington and pleaded guilty in June to all three charges against her, including drug trafficking, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization.

The former beauty queen is accused of acting as an intermediary between “El Chapo” and his organization. In addition to the jail sentence, the prosecutors also demand that she be placed under surveillance for five years after her release and pay a fine of $1.5 million (€1.3 million).
