Interesting topic I thought of;
Who are some guys who were marked for death; but were never killed because the contract was pulled off; they got a “pass”; fled NYC and was never found? Entered the witness protection program or simply the heat was too much for them to be whacked. The other reason would be that they got “shelved”.
My two guys would be
Pete Casella - He was told to leave to Florida or he would be whacked for the murder of Phil Testa.
Frank Costello - Marked for death and was injured but Vito Genovese allowed him to retire.
Any others??? Would love some other responses!

The Commission gave Bonanno a pass in 1968 but put him on the shelf for his botched plot to kill Gambino, Lucchese and Magaddino.

What about Frank Lino?
Wasn’t he suppose to be killed in the 3 capo murder??
But was able to escape and run to his cousin Eddie Lino?
Eddie spoke with Neil Dellacroce and Frank Lino got a “pass”
Only if he could find and kill Bruno Indelicato right? Yes. There are alot more members who got passes during civil wars in families. Bruno and Pitera were called in and didn't show up to the meetings, especially after they tried to hit the Gottis after the 3 Capo murders as Bruno found out that John Gotti crew were in charge of disposing of the bodies. So the Commission put out a contract on Indelicato, Pitera and anyone else with them, which Lino was given to test his loyalty to Rastelli, Sonny Black, and Fat Joe. That is where the contract came into play, and Lino already got a pass thanks to his cousin Eddie, and Dellacroce. Once Bruno was arrested, those around him came back in the fold and were placed in Frank Linos crew which was Brunos old crew. It was a test on Linos loyalty.
"I have this Nightmare. I'm on 5th avenue watching the St. Patrick's Day parade and I have a coronary and nine thousand cops march happily over my body." Chief Sidney Green

Another controversial guy that I’ve gotten a lot of criticism on;
Chickie Ciancaglini; He most likely had some inside knowledge of the Angelo Bruno hit; but was saved by Nicky Scarfo; NY wanted Chickie gone from several sources…. He was too close to Frank Sindone; Phil Testa allowed him to live and get a “pass” if he got rid of Sindone; What do people think??
Also what about John Stanfa??? Wasn’t he a marked man in some type of capacity?? He fled to NJ to be with the Cherry Hill Gambino’s and was saved by Paul Castellano from being whacked. Castellano had to meet with Corallo; Fat Tony and a few others.. for this to happen.

Although he didn't get a pass, Gravano was marked for death by Peter Gotti. Huck Carbonaro and an associate, Fat Sal, made an elaborate, well-financed plan to track him down and blow him up in Tempe AZ, where he was operating a swimming pool construction business. The plot failed because the Feds arrested him on a drug dealing charge: https://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/16/...saved-him-from-murder-officials-say.htmlGravano was lucky that those 2 were the ones sent out there to kill him. They had him in their sites several times, but kept prolonging things by saying they needed disguises, and were growing beards and trying to look like motorcycle club members. If Peter Gotti had sent 2 serious people out there Gravano would be dead IMO. That may have scared off future rats, but the heat would have come down hard on the mafia.

Carbonaro was a killer with 3 men killed while fat sal mangiavillano wasnt a killer so the mistake was to send a proved killer and a bank robber that would do everything to aboid life for the killing of high profile rat.

Baldo Amato was marked for death cause he was shaking down drug dealers who we’re associated with Phil Rastelli; but Joseph Massino convinced Rastelli to give Amato a “pass” because he was following his captain’s order (Cesare Bonventre)
Bonventre got whacked for walking out on a meeting on Rusty (that’s what I heard a while back)
Baldo was able to live…
