Mafia: the voice of the super fugitive Messina Denaro in the recording of a hearing
August 12, 2021
mafia, Matteo Messina Money, Sicily, Chronicle
With an unpublished audio document , Tg1 made the voice of the mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro heard . The audio dates back to 1993, shortly before the fugitive, and is contained in a cassette that remained "buried" for years in the archive of the court of Marsala, brought back to light thanks to the action of the anti-mafia association Rita Atria. In court as a witness, Messina Denaro is asked if he remembers being questioned by the mobile squad following a murder in Partanna, in his district.

The former president of the council of Favara (Agrigento), Salvatore Lupo , was killed with two shots pistol while he was in a bar in Via IV Novembre. Lupo is an entrepreneur in the residential sector for the elderly. On the spot are the carabinieri who are listening to witnesses.
Lupo, 45, was arrested in 2017, with his wife, in the "Broken wages" operation. The investigation had revealed that the employees of the "Suami Social Cooperative - Onlus" were first credited to their current account with the monthly payments and then, with ATM cards in the name of the same employees, the sole administrator of the coop, Lupo, would have withdrawn - according to the indictment - half of the salaries. According to the investigation, these "forced" withdrawals of money would have affected over 20 employees.
According to the first reconstructions Salvatore Lupo would have arrived in via IV Novembre, in the heart of Favara, with his Porsche Macan. He walked into the Snack American Bar and asked to go to the bathroom. He was killed, under the eyes of the bartender, who is in shock, as soon as he left. Only one assassin who would have acted - according to the earliest indiscretions - with his face uncovered. At least two gunshots have reached him. On the spot, the carabinieri of the tenence and of the company command of Agrigento are operating . In these minutes, the findings are carried out but we are also trying to listen to possible witnesses.

Matteo Messina Denaro and Giovanni Motisi from Palermo among the six fugitives of "maximum danger" included in the Criminalpol list.

The list of dangerous fugitives currently includes 62 people, of which 18 affiliated with the 'Ndrangheta, 3 with the Camorra, 4 with Apulian crime and 2 with Cosa Nostra,

Much has been written about Matteo Messina Denaro in recent years. Less known to the public - but certainly not to investigators - is Giovanni Motisi. In recent years, the name of the historic boss of Pagliarelli sentenced to life imprisonment, wanted since 1993 and disappeared into thin air in 1998, has returned to the center of investigative activities in anti-mafia operations. Someone has also hypothesized its death, but there is no certainty of its suppression.

None of the collaborators of justice has ever provided information on this subject. On the contrary, in the interceptions and in the declarations of the repentants, included in the blitz of the carabinieri that led to the arrest of the new boss Giuseppe Calvaruso, we return to talk about the old mafia boss of Pagliarelli, also known as ' u Pacchiuni. "While we were detained in prison - declares the repentant Filippo Bisconti, former head of Belmonte, in the interrogation of 11 April 2019 - (Calvaruso) told me that he was accompanying Giovanni Motisi, the fugitive". In another passage - conversation intercepted on October 1, 2016 - it is Calvaruso himself who brags to an entrepreneur from Bagheria about his closeness to the boss, specifying that he and Vincenzo Cascino were «the only ones authorized to meet the fugitive (...) , from which he used to receive instructions and directives ».

Mafia in Palermo, a new repentant at Acquasanta: Giovanni Ferrante collaborates with justice
August 30, 2021

Giovanni Nanni Ferrante , regent of the Acquasanta clan of Palermo, detained at 41 bis, arrested in May last year in a maxi-raid that had led to 91 arrests, including chiefs and wingmen of the Resuttana district, decided to collaborate with justice. But the boss's family have already communicated that they have distanced themselves after the repentance

Before Ferrante, the former boss Gaetano Fontana had decided to collaborate with the magistrates, the main defendant in the trial that emerged from the Mani in pasta investigation, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Salvatore De Luca and by the substitutes Dario Scaletta and Amelia Luise (today at the Public Prosecutor's European).

Giovanni "Nanni" Ferrante had been described in the pages of the order of the blitz of May last year as the "terror" of the neighborhood traders, forced to pay the protection money through threats and arson attacks.

Corruption and protection by very powerful people , Sicily is small island , you can't hide there for 30+ years without support of various powerful people/groups.

Cortese: "The Palermo bosses would never accept Messina Denaro, head of the mafia"
07 September 2021
The former commissioner of Paleremo heard in Marsala as part of the Annozero trial: "The clans of the capital have always poorly tolerated the Corleonesi"

«It is difficult for Matteo Messina Denaro to be at the regional summit of Cosa Nostra. The Palermitans have always poorly tolerated the Corleonesi. In my opinion, therefore, Messina Denaro cannot be Riina's heir. Surely, it has an important role at the provincial level ». This was stated by the former police commissioner of Palermo Renato Cortese, heard, in court, in Marsala, in the trial resulting from the anti-mafia operation Annozero (blitz of 19 April 2018), which involved alleged mafia members, including a brother-in-law of the superflatant (Gaspare Como) and supporters of Cosa Nostra in Belicino.

Cortese was called to testify following an interview released a few years ago in which he said that Messina Denaro no longer had a top role. Today, he specified that when he said he no longer had a top role he was referring to a regional summit. According to his knowledge of the Mafia, in fact, it is not possible for a Corleonese to be at the top of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra. Messina Denaro is famously from Castelvetrano, when we talk about Corleonesi we mean the favorable alignment of Sa Totò Riina during the mafia war.

I've always wondered about this, I doubt the Palermo Mafia would accept someone from another province as boss of bosses, they're too proud.

Mafia bust in Bagheria, 8 arrests for extortion, management of betting shops, drug trafficking and attempted murder.
Together with Massimiliano Ficano, 46, considered by investigators to be the new Mafia boss of Bagheria, even his most trusted men were arrested today. They are Gino Catalano (44 years old), Bartolomeo Scaduto (26 years old), Giuseppe Cannata (37 years old), Salvatore D'Acquisto, Giuseppe Sanzone (54 years old) and Carmelo Fricano (73 years old).
The boss boasted to his loyalists that he had been initiated into the organization by the mafia close to Bernardo Provenzano who in the past had dealt with the hiding of the Corleonese godfather.
The investigations of the carabinieri would have ascertained the passage of the command of the Bagheria family from Onofrio Catalano (known as 'Gino') to Massimiliano Ficano , considered more authoritative, and who had the support and strong link with the life-imprisoned mafia boss Onofrio Morreale.

Mafia in Castellammare, blow to the "feud" of Messina Denaro: 8 condemned, the names
21 September 2021
Acquitted the mayor of the town, Nicolò Rizzo, accused of aiding and abetting because he was intercepted while meeting the boss Francesco Domingo, Francesco Di Bono and Calogero Valenti
castellammare del golfo, mafia, Trapani, Chronicle
\
The gup of Palermo sentenced 8 of the 11 defendants to the trial of alleged members of the mafia family of Castellammare del Golfo, a small center of the fiefdom of the fugitive boss Matteo Messina Denaro, to 70 years of imprisonment.

The mayor of the town, Nicolò Rizzo, was acquitted, accused of aiding and abetting because he was intercepted while meeting the boss Francesco Domingo, Francesco Di Bono and Calogero Valenti.

Twelve years were inflicted on Camillo Domingo, 4 on Diego Angileri, 10 and 8 months on Daniele La Sala, 14 and eight months on Salvatore Mercadante, 8 years and six months on Antonino Sabella, 10 and 8 months on Francesco Stabile, 4 years and 6 months to Francesco Virga and 4 years and six months to Gaspare Maurizio. The prosecutors, coordinated by the adjunct Paolo Guido, contested, for various reasons, the mafia association, aiding and abetting, extortion and participation in a mafia association against the accused.

The investigation was launched after the release of the godfather Francesco Domingo (tried separately), and has reconstructed the organization chart of the "family" still headed by Domingo, who, according to the investigators, would never have left the command despite being detained.

The clan controlled economic activities, particularly the agricultural and construction sectors. Through threats and intimidation, the bosses would have managed to win jobs and would have played a role of mediation and resolution of disputes between private individuals, replacing the institutions.

STIDDA

Mafia, raid with 50 arrests in Nisseno: shed light on two murders with the white shotgun method
September 24, 2021
Blow to the mafia family of Mazzarino. The investigations have clarified how two crimes occurred with the "white shotgun" method in 1984 and 1991

Maxi anti-mafia operation in Nisseno. The carabinieri of Caltanissetta carried out a precautionary custody order against 55 alleged affiliates of the Sanfilippo di Mazzarino clan attributable to the Stidda Gelese , with ramifications throughout the national territory and in particular in the Milan area.

The measures were issued by the Gip of Caltanissetta, at the request of the DDA. The suspects must answer, for various reasons, for mafia association, murder, extortion, drug trafficking and possession of weapons, crimes aggravated by the mafia method.

As part of the investigations, the investigators also shed light on two murders with the 'white shotgun' method that took place in 1984 and 1991.

"In the course of the investigations, which were also carried out through environmental interceptions, new elements emerged on two murders of the mafia using the" white shotgun "method, those of Benedetto Bonaffini and Luigi La Bella. We have reconstructed both the motive and the details of the crimes, which took place in the context of the mafia war between the Cosa Nostra and Stidda ". The prosecutor Davide Spina said this during the press conference on today's operation.

You have to give it to the Mafia in Sicily, they have done an outstanding job at keeping murders down to a bare minimum and instead focusing on making money and corruption. Anytime there's mention of murders it's murders that occurred decades ago. That takes a lot of discipline and order.

As soon as Provenzano took over , he focused on totally different tactics, low-key , no war against the state , but work with the state , corruption and making money only. Also people who were on top 40-50 years ago were street people , people on top today are lawyers, bankers and so on.

It was like that 40 years ago or so, but we see more and more people turning to mafia for help rather than state, especially now after covid.

Francesco Paolo Vitale died, his cousin was the first repentant that nobody wanted to believe
September 25, 2021
He was 78 years old and had spent part of his life trying to rehabilitate the name of Leonardo, who decided to collaborate but was believed to be crazy

Francesco Paolo Vitale died. He was 78 years old and had spent part of his life trying to rehabilitate the name of his cousin Leonardo Vitale, the first repentant of the Mafia .
Defined by many as the "Valachi di Altarello", Leonardo was born in Palermo in 1941. At the age of 17 his uncle, Titta Vitale, decided to make him an honorable man of Cosa Nostra and to see if he was capable of killing , handed him a gun and told him to kill a horse. He followed orders. In 1973, following a mystical crisis, he decided to repent and spill the beans, revealing his secrets to Bruno Contrada, at the time a manager in Palermo. From his confessions came out the names of big names of the mafia elitelike Pippo Calò, Vito Ciancimino and even Totò Riina, who was not yet the boss of the bosses. But not everyone believed him. Although he was defined as reliable, he was referred to as partially mentally ill . Investigations on the new network of Matteo Messina Denaro in Agrigento closed. In 30 suspects towards the trial. The Agrigento mafia, according to the findings of the "Xydi" investigation, had reorganized itself under the directives of the super-fledgling Matteo Messina Denaro and the life-sentence boss Giuseppe Falsone, who has always been his loyalist. The Canicattì district would have been managed by the elderly boss Calogero Di Caro and by the mafia entrepreneur Giancarlo Buggea who, after returning free, had returned to work with an apparently unsuspected "counselors", namely his partner, the 'lawyer Angela Porcello. The 51-year-old professional, who later canceled herself from the Order, would have exploited her activity first of all to meet Falsone at 41 bis and convey her messages from prison but not only: Angela Porcello would have acted as the "cashier" of the district by promoting and organizing a series of meetings with associates also from other provinces.

The conflict between the new Stidda and the Cosa Nostra
The investigation would also have revealed the components of the new Stidda that would have opposed the Cosa Nostra family. A series of extortions are also suspected, particularly in the agricultural mediation sector.
