I understand that the Philly mob historically had a north Jersey presence in Newark.
How did the NYC families allow this to happen and how did it come to be?

Angelo Bruno was close with Carlo Gambino. Angelo Bruno had relatives in newark at the time and they were involved with gambling. Carlo got the ok for Bruno allowing them to operate. thats how the north jersey crew started.. it was in the down neck section of newark.

They always had people up there. Definitely before Angelo Bruno. That crew was under John Simone when Bruno was boss until they got their own capo.

There was rumors they were basically a faction. I remember when Phil came home and Im not sure that was ever true.

Johnny keys wasnt from Newark. The crew officially started under Bruno..

Right. He was from Northeast Philly I think. Lived in Trenton and later moved to Bucks County PA. I don’t know who started that crew but they reported into Johnny Keys until Tony Bananas got bumped up. Before my time so I’m just going off what I was told. But I have no reason to believe what I was told isn’t accurate since it was people who were around him.
